On 2016 Wednesday, 30th November, grades 10,11 and 12 had the opportunity to enjoy an English play whic took place at the grammar school Heinrich-Ehrhardt-Gymnasium. The three actors are touring across Germany and France. They came from London. The play was called"A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. It tells the story of a grumpy old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by the Three Spirits of Christmas. Eventually, they turn him into a kind and warmhearted man.
Although the play was performed by three people they appeared in a very authentic way while playing different characters. It was remarkable and amazing, that everything on stage including light, effects and scenery as well as props was handle by the three of them.
In the aftermath questions about the play, the actors and the company which has hired them were discussed. We got to know that the group first had met only 5 days before the first performance started. So they had little time for rehearsal. The actors do not plays exclusively in schools but also work at the Globe Theatre and play roles in British TVseries. The actors also answered personal questions about their daily lives as actors. They made it clear that working as an actor often means much work and little money. It sometimes might be stressful. Anyway, all of them agreed it is worth becoming an actor because you can travel the world and gain a lot of experience.
In general the performance proved that we are able to use our English knowledge quite skillfully. The students of grades 10, 11 and 12 want to thank the actors. We are looking forward to seeing new play of next year.
